EULEN Webinar on Artificial Intelligence Systems and EU Law Enforcement

One of the questions that our Network is facing is how EU law enforcement is being transformed by technological innovation. Accordingly, May, 14th from 09:00h-13:30h we will be reflecting on the role, promises and perils of artificial intelligence in various areas of EU law enforcement. The workshop will focus, firstly, on the use of artificial intelligence systems in market supervision, and particularly in competition law enforcement and in financial services supervision. Special attention will be paid to the application of artificial intelligence in the performance of enforcement functions by public authorities.

We will next look at some building blocks of the area of freedom, security and justice, namely criminal law and criminal procedure. Artificial intelligence has given rise to some concerns in terms of both forensics and sentencing. Finally, the role of artificial intelligence systems in two other areas will also be explored: border control and management, on the one hand, and fraud prevention, on the other. While the use of these applications in the first one is less explored, in the second one it has already given rise to various judicial decisions.
